Even if it isn't quite swimming season, the lake itself is still the star of the show. Take a scenic drive, find a waterfront spot to enjoy the view, or simply spend a slow morning at your lake house with coffee by the water.

March is actually a great time for hiking around Lake Martin because you can enjoy the scenery without Alabama's summer heat.

Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail offers beautiful elevated views over Lake Martin and feels like a true destination activity rather than just a walking trail. For something a little more relaxed, Nature's Way Trail offers a roughly 2.2-mile shoreline loop with lake views and places to stop along the way.

More adventurous guests could try The Deadening Alpine Trailhead, which has steeper terrain and some particularly beautiful bluff and lake views.

Get Out on the Water

For guests who really want to experience Lake Martin, a guided outing can be a fun option if weather permits. Lake Martin Tours offers captained pontoon tours, including trips focused on the lake's landmarks.

Explore Alexander City

Take a little time to explore the charm of historic Downtown Alexander City, the heart of the Lake Martin community. Stroll along Main Street and The Square, browse locally owned boutiques, antique shops and home décor stores, or stop in for coffee, lunch or a sweet treat at one of the neighborhood favorites. Early spring is a wonderful time to get out on the water, with largemouth and Alabama bass among the lake's most popular catches. Bring your own gear and boat, or make a morning of it with one of the area's local fishing guides who can help you discover some of the lake's best spots.
